Tove Alexandersson and Gustav Bergman were the best during World Cup orienteering at Skolleborg.
Tove Alexandersson was in a league of her own in the mostly tough Norwegian terrain outside of Halden today. The marshes were vegetated and difficult to maneuver through. But this didn’t stop Alexandersson at all:
- I’ve made a technically well performed race. And now I really look forward to WOC in the same kind of surroundings next year, she said after the race.
Today’s runner up, Kamilla Olaussen from Østfold and Fredrikstad, is another runner that’ll look forward to WOC 2019 in the local forests:
- It feels really good to have succeeded in the home forests of Østfold today. This means a lot to me after having worked hard for many years, Olaussen said after having reached the podium in a World Cup competition for the first time in her career.
Today she was just over three minutes behind Tove Alexandersson. In third place came Alexandersson’s team mate Karolin Ohlsson:
- I’ve performed good for a long period of time now, but in the final stages of today’s race I became a bit unfocused and made a mistake. Now after the race it really annoys me. But I mainly focus on holding on to the good parts, Ohlsson said.
The pedal to the metal
In the men’s race Gustav Bergman took his first ever victory in a World Cup race:
- When I feel as strong as today, I know that I can put the pedal to the metal. I know from previous experience that in this type of terrain I will endure the whole race at maximum speed. It felt good to perform to capacity today, Bergman said.
Reigning long-distance World Champion Olav Lundanes had to settle for a step down on the podium today:
- The first half of my race wasn’t particularly good today. I made one bad route choice, and on the fourth control I wasted some 20 seconds on a miss. I’m disappointed in having been beaten on home soil. My performance was just not good enough today, Lundanes concluded.
Matthias Kyburz from Switzerland came in third:
- My race was good, with just one small mistake, and I’m happy with today’s performance, Kyburz said.
Tomorrow it’s time for a prologue/pursuit when WC/Pre-WOC continues, and on Sunday there will be relays.
