Newly appointed Svend Sondre will help the WOC county on the way towards mapping of all schools, and a well structured organisation of volunteers during WOC 2019.

-I’m very pleased to have a young leader within the team. His education is well fitted for the task as well as being a local and connected to one of the owner clubs of the WOC Organisation, says Sigmund Vister (Chairman of the WOC board)

The person he is talking about is Svend Sondre Frøshaug, who is newly appointed by WOC.

As recently educated at Norges Idrettshøgskole (Norwegian Sports Academy) he will straight away take on a big job in his home area. The job is split between WOC 2019 and the project “Finn Fram i Østfold” (“Find your way in Østfold”). –I will amongst other coordinate the base of volunteers for WOC. A lot of the work for WOC 2019 will be to facilitate a volunteer portal for the championships, Svend Sondre tells us.

There’s no doubt that WOC 2019 will be a large scale event with many visitors, and having a well organised plan for all the needed volunteers will be a task of great importance.

Svend Sondre played a similar part at the 2016 World Championships in Biathlon in Oslo, Holmenkollen. Per Bergerud played the part as director even then.

WOC 2019 will be a championship for the entire county of Østfold, and Svend Sondre Frøshaugs roles reflect that ambition well.

-We aim for a permanent raise of competence in use of the map and the compass within the local public schools. Svend Sondre will play an important part in the work directly towards the schools, leader of Østfold o-krets (union of the clubs from Østfold) Jens Erik Mjølnerød says.

Svend Sondre looks forward to this job as well:

-I’m excited about “Finn frem i Østfold”. One of our ambitions is to create maps of all the local schools, and thereby facilitate high quality orienteering instruction. By that we hope to raise the competence and instruction levels amongst teachers as well, an eager Svend Sondre tells us.

-The Østfold clubs seem highly committed to the project, and their support of the schools will be important further ahead. If we can manage to facilitate for even more children to find joy in the sport of orienteering, maybe new future athletes can be recruited for the sport, Frøshaug finishes.
