Tove Alexandersson and Thierry Gueorgiou have been awarded orienteering achievements of the year for 2017. One of them will be a gold medal contender in Østfold 2019.

The WOC organizers are thrilled about having the leading athletes of the world visiting Østfold and fight for the medals a year and a half from now.

The duo won Orienteering Achievement of the Year based on a poll held amongst users of World of O online.

Tove Alexandersson won the prize for the second year in a row, and stood out in the poll with her three WOC gold medals in Estonia.

I'm constantly aiming for improvement, and you need to make all the right choices on the right day, Alexandersson says in a SOFT bulletin.

Thierry Gueorgiou is the all time greatest male orienteer. The French runner concluded a fantastic career by winning yet another WOC gold medal this summer. When he won the middle distance gold, it meant his 14th WOC gold medal in total.

-2017 was a very special year to me, as it marked my last journey as an elite performer. Because of this I felt that this race was the only one that really mattered to me this season, he explains in the bulletin.
