WOC 2019 has young volunteers as a focus area. At the opening ceremony on Monday the extra young volunteers were shining.

Martin Bryggen (12 y.o.) from Halden Skiklubb and close to 50 other youngsters from the Østfold clubs carried the nation signs at the parade.

Martin led the whole procession ahead of Argentina’s flag carrier.

- A fun and a bit different assignment, Bryggen told us.

- Why did you sign up for this?

- Because WOC is in Østfold, and to me as a orienteer it’s fun to be part of.

His mother found the assignment on Facebook and Martin is now done with his duties and can focus fully on running spectator races.

A total of around 700 volunteers put in an estimated 30.000 hours of voluntary unpaid work for WOC 2019.

- Without the volunteers this WOC had not been possible, Frida Blomgren from the Ministry of Culture said during her speech at the opening ceremony.
