The County council of Østfold has today granted the WOC organization NOK 2000000 (Around 212000 euros) to put into the preparations for World Championships. WOC 2019 will be the biggest sporting event ever held in the county.

 

The chairman of the Industry and Culture Committee, Andreas Lervik, was unmistakable in his recommodation:
- The World Championships in Orienteering 2019 makes use of the whole area within the county, even though the actual championship finals will be held in Spydeberg. We are one of the great areas of orienteering, with a lot of world champions to show for, Lervik said and added that the good cooperation with the WOC organization so far has been a great motivator to obtain responsibility for even more international championships. Others within the committee emphasised the positive effects on public health, local business life and the general reputation of the county.
