-Perhaps my opinion is a bit subjective, still I give Euromeeting in Østfold top grades!
The words come from Sigmund Vister, the chairman of WOC 2019, after Sundays long distance race organised by Varteig Orienteringslag.
Vister was the announcer during Euromeeting, and made the winner's interview with the just as satisfied Estonian Timo Sild. Sild followed up on his victory on the middle distance in Våler, by also winning the demanding long distance race close to the motor racing tracks at Rudskogen. The swedes Rassmus Andersson and Ola Martner were the closest runner ups.
On Saturday Sweden swept the floor with the other nations in the women's class, and claimed the top ten (!) positions. On Sunday they settled for the top two. Alva Olsson won ahead of Josefin Tjernlund, with British runner Jo Sheperd in 3rd place.
To WOC chairman Vister it was reassuring that the preliminary test before WOC 2019 went as well as it did.
-I've emphasised that we do this thourougly well allready at first opportunity, and that we deliver an international dimension to the event. By international standards I talk about everything from info bulletins and team captain meetings via model events to simple things like having set up tents to change clothes in. I also talk about the online live tracking and result service online.
-Euromeeting has shown us that we manage to cooperate well across the clubs. OK Moss and Varteig OL delivered great events. I would like to mention a few people like Marianne Kahrs of Fredrikstad SK, who did a great job with info amongst the 11 participating nations. And Tormod Jensen of Sarpsborg OL has been steady as an event controller, Sigmund Vister sums up. Vister himself is representing Indre Østfold OK when he takes to the forest.
Østfold also has Halden SK. They have the honour of hosting the Norwegian Championships 2017 this week.
